Delusional Planet
While it’s a fact that women, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people are still significantly underrepresented in the music industry, only 2% of new music releases are by female artists and only 11% of artists on stage in Switzerland are women (pre-study published by Pro Helvetia and the Center of Gender Studies at the University of Basel in 2021), ALÉLÉFI has a mission to listen, collect, share and highlight women, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people artists, producers and labels.
This housy, groovy and experimental set for Radio 3Fach is showcasing a collection of many tracks by only women, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people, which inspired and accompanied us in our journey as DJs since our start in 2019.
We’re wondering by the mentioned statistics above: Is it possible to create new realities, arrangements of gender and hierarchies? And what’s the role of DJs reproducing realities or creating new ones?
Fortunately, we always find answers in electronic music. Just to mention a few: Kim Ann Fox is creating in her new album “Pleasure Planet” new pleasurable realities and is fractalizing the borders between gen(d)res in her music. Detroit techno musician, K-Hand, connects – instead of separating feelings and people – in her iconic track “My Love”, similarly to Aurora Halal, with her 2015 released album “Shapeshifter”. Additionally, we want to highlight Steffi and Virginia, two artists that made their first ever collaborative remix of Josh Caffes Tracks “Do you want to take me home”. Their music immediately transports us to a parallel aural universe, refusing to settle into one style and merging multiple references into peculiar new formats.
